Group Analytic Psychotherapy

Group Analytic Psychotherapy is an effective form of personal therapy that takes place in a group setting. Based on the psychoanalytic approach, group analytic psychotherapy was established and developed by Sigmund Heinrich Foulkes, with the contribution of Wilfred Ruprecht Bion and subsequent psychoanalysts.

In group analytic psychotherapy, the group itself, including the therapist, represents one of the main therapeutic factors. This psychotherapeutic method supports the idea that many of our beliefs and actions are outside of our conscious awareness and uses the group to promote insight and deepen understanding of the nature of human relationships.

In this way, each person can be relieved of everyday life difficulties, integrate with their family and community better, and be supported to enjoy a better quality of life.

Group analytic psychotherapy is applied to a variety of problems and life situations, such as anxiety, depression, interpersonal difficulties, low self-esteem, and psychosomatic states. At the same time, group analytic psychotherapy supports the exploration of the individual inner desires and the emergence of undeveloped ambitions and creativity of the group members.

Treatment Goal

The goal of group analytic psychotherapy is to provide a safe, facilitating environment, in which the person can share and express personal stressors and anxieties, forbidden thoughts and feelings to develop new forms of relationships with themselves and others. In addition, the group can be an important source of meaning, support and reinforcement during difficult times when a member of the group is facing intense stress and emotional impasse.
